Enthralled with the arts, Larry Neal Jr. began sketching at a very young age. With his natural talent for the arts and his unique vision, he was able to pursue his passion further.

Larry graduated from Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts High School and earned his A.A. in Graphic Design from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. He developed his art skills under the wing of some of the best instructors and mentors in the art world and humbly accepted their teaching and guidance. Even now, he hasn’t stopped learning; Larry continues his artistic education by attending various online courses.

Larry was featured on the front page of The Orlando Times for his contributions as an essential healthcare worker and a minority artist. He has also helped create many murals in and around the city of Pittsburgh. His work was even put up on display at the RAW Natural Born Artists exhibition (2017), the Charismatic exhibition (2020-21), and the Flying High exhibition (2021).

Artist Statement

I have dedicated myself to exploring and refining techniques that bring depth, realism, and emotion to my work. My practice spans oil paintings, mixed media, and large-scale murals—each created with a focus on color, texture, and storytelling.

I often choose concepts that challenge me to explore the full spectrum of color, from cool to warm, primary to secondary, and dark to light. When painting people, I pay close attention to the intricate details of skin tone, layering pigments to capture a sense of life and individuality. My murals extend this same philosophy to larger surfaces, transforming walls into vibrant narratives that reflect community, culture, and shared identity.

Inspired by the ideas and craftsmanship of the Renaissance, I borrow classical techniques while developing my own contemporary approach. My vision is to create artwork that not only embodies beauty but also evokes feeling—whether for a loved one, a community, or a passerby encountering a mural for the first time.

Ultimately, my goal is to bring each canvas and wall to life by pushing my skills further, experimenting with new methods, and harnessing the power of color and imagery to connect with people in meaningful ways.
